About N.A.T.I.V.E.

N.A.T.I.V.E. is an acronym for Northeast Arizona Technological Institute of Vocational Education. It is a Joint Technological Education District (JTED) in Arizona working in partnership with eight area high schools: Chinle High School, Ganado High School, Pinon High School, Monument Valley High School, Red Mesa High School, Tuba City High School, Valley High School, and Window Rock High School. The N.A.T.I.V.E. District partners with sites to provide Career Technical Education (CTE) for their students. Students in these eight area high schools can begin preparing for high-wage, high-demand occupations while in high school by enrolling in N.A.T.I.V.E. CTE classes.

In the future, 65 percent of all jobs will require technical skills that demand specialized training. Most require education beyond high school.  N.A.T.I.V.E. is constantly upgrading its Career Technical Education training programs to provide the skills necessary for high paying careers.

N.A.T.I.V.E. satellite site students learn in a CTE classroom environment while developing a broad range of skills essential for successful living.  Through career planning, skill instruction, related academics, leadership training, workplace experience, and employment readiness, N.A.T.I.V.E. students are prepared to take their place in the work force and/or to continue their education.

N.A.T.I.V.E.'s History

In 1990, the Arizona State Legislature approved by statute that public school districts could join together through a public vote to combine efforts to offer Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. In November 2002, seven Navajo Nation communities voted to form the N.A.T.I.V.E. Joint Vocational District and those seven communities became satellite sites.  An eighth district's community voted in November 2004 to join N.A.T.I.V.E. District.

Currently, there are 14 Joint Technological Education Districts in Arizona assisting high school students with career training.
